Culinary Arts is an ever expanding and evolving food industry, full of excitement, action and interesting people. This course is designed to give students a working knowledge of many different segments in the foodservice industry. Emphasis will be a hands-on learning environment in a small class setting. Students will be learning basic knife skills, safety and sanitation, hygiene and basic equipment maintenance to achieve a basic proficiency in standard cooking techniques. Students will also be introduced to food service and hospitality.

Students enjoy the variety of courses in the Culinary Department because they are interactive and relevant. Besides learning content, students are encouraged to understand “real world” issues that face their future as they think critically on solutions to solve them.
Hands On Learning
This course provides a broad understanding of the culinary industry. Training occurs through classroom instruction and participation in the kitchen laboratory. Students will focus on safety and sanitation standards, principles of nutrition, knife skills, basic cooking principles, basic baking essentials, menu planning, basic food service mathematics, an introduction to the cold kitchen and international cooking.
